Victor Chu

Victor Chu is a member of the Atlantic Council International Advisory Board.
Chu is the Chairman of First Eastern Investment Group, a leading direct investment firm focusing on China. He is also Chairman of FE Securities Limited, First Eastern Investment Bank Limited and CMEC GE Capital China Industrial Holdings Limited.
Chu has served as Director and Council Member of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Member of the Hong Kong Takeovers and Mergers Panel, Advisory Committee Member of the Securities and Futures Commission, and part-time member of Hong Kong Government’s Central Policy Unit. Mr. Chu is currently a Foundation Board Member of the World Economic Forum and serves as Co-Chair of the Forum’s International Business Council. He is also an Executive Board Member of the International Chamber of Commerce and serves as Chairman of the ICC Commission on Financial Services and Insurance. He was elected a “Global Leader for Tomorrow” by the World Economic Forum in 1998.
Mr. Chu is licensed to practice law in England and Hong Kong. Since 1982 he has practiced in the field of corporate, commercial and securities laws, with special emphasis on China and regional investment transactions. He served as Deputy Secretary-General of the International Bar Association (IBA) from 1995 to 2000.
Chu is a Trustee of the International Crisis Group (ICG) in Brussels and WWF Hong Kong. He also serves on the Governing Council of University College London, Dean’s Council of the Kennedy School at Harvard and the Board of the Foreign Affairs University of China. Mr. Chu’s other civic associations include service on the advisory bodies of Asia House, Asia Foundation, Beijing Music Festival Foundation and the East Asia Institute of Cambridge University.
Chu was born in Canton, China and moved to Hong Kong at the age of four. He received his early education in Hong Kong and England, and earned his law degree at University College, London.
