Biography

Sven Biscop

Sven Biscop is Director of the Security & Global Governance Programme at Egmont – the Royal Institute for International Relations (Brussels) where he focuses on the foreign, security and defence policy of the European Union. Dr. Biscop is also a member of the Council's Strategic Advisors Group. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in International Relations at Ghent University (2002) where he subsequently lectured on European security (2003-2007). Professor Biscop has held lectures at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Université de Liège (ULG), and has been a visiting professor at Renmin University in Beijing and Carleton University in Ottawa.

His recent research and publications have focussed on the European Security Strategy, on which he has published Euro-Mediterranean Security: A Search for Partnership (Ashgate, 2003), The European Security Strategy – A Global Agenda for Positive Power (Ashgate, 2005) and The EU and the European Security Strategy – Forging a Global Europe (Routledge, 2007, co-edited with Jan Joel Andersson).
