Biography

Jonathan Silverthorne

Jonathan Silverthorne is the associate director of the Young Atlanticist Program.

Prior to joining the Atlantic Council, he worked at the US Department of Homeland Security’s Office of International Affairs from 2009-2011, leading DHS-wide coordination of Central American policy and engagement. Jonathan worked closely with the State Department, US Southern Command, White House National Security staff, and within DHS to strengthen regional partnerships and to expand effective security assistance in the border, aviation, maritime, and emergency management arenas.

Previously, Jonathan worked at the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee, helping to organize the Committee’s National Day of Service, and on the Obama Campaign in 2008, coordinating the campaign’s grassroots fundraising on the East Coast. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Dartmouth College with a BA in history. As a student, he interned at the US embassy in Moscow and for then-Senator Barack Obama. He also studied abroad in Paris, France and St. Petersburg, Russia. He speaks French and Russian fluently and has studied Arabic.
