Biography

Damien Tomkins

Damien Tomkins, who interned with the Atlantic Council's Asia Program in the summer of 2009, is a Project Assistant at the East-West Center in Washington where he specializes in Northeast Asia.

His current research interests concern international relations within Asia, with an emphasis upon the continuing development of China and its regional and wider implications. He also contributes to the Asia Matters for America initiative and is co-editor of the Asia Pacific Bulletin.

Mr. Tomkins received his M.A. with a focus on Asia from the School of International Service, American University in 2009, where he was an editorial staff member, 2008-2009, of the graduate student publication Journal of International Service. From 2002-2004 he taught pedagogy and English in Guizhou province as part of Voluntary Service Overseas development work in China. In 2000, he received a Joint First Class Honours B.A. in Anthropology and Religious Studies from the University of Wales, Lampeter.
