Biography

Angela Stent

Angela Stent is a nonresident senior fellow with the Program on Transatlantic Relations at the Atlantic Council.  She is also Professor of Government and Foreign Service and Director of the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies in the Georgetown School of Foreign Service.  Dr. Stent is a specialist on Soviet and post-Soviet foreign policy; she focuses on U.S.-Russia, Russia-Europe and Russia-Germany relations.

Dr. Stent was the National Intelligence Officer for Russia and Eurasia at the National Intelligence Council from 2004 to 2006.  From 1999 to 2001, she served on the Policy Planning Staff of the State Deparment, where she covered Russian and Central European affairs.

Previously, Dr. Stent has taught at Holy Cross College, M.I.T. and the State Department's Foreign Service Institute.  She also consulted for the State Department, the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment and Shell Oil.  Dr. Stent sits on the boards of the U.S.-Russia Business Forum and Supporters of Civil Society in Russia.  She is on the academic advisory board of the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies and on the Advisory Board of Women in International Security.  Dr. Stent also serves on the editorial boards of World Policy Journal, The Journal of Cold War Studies and Internationale Politik.  She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
