At the 2008 awards dinner, the Atlantic Council honored Tony Blair, Rupert Murdoch, Mike Mullen, and Evgeny Kissin.  We had the likes of Colin Powell and Henry Kissinger introducing the introducers.   It was inconceivable that we would be able to top that.  And, yet, we did just that last night.

Matt Drudge has the banner headline "MURDOCH WARNS NATIONS WILL BE REDEFINED" above a story that begins: Media baron Rupert Murdoch issued an urgent internal communication late Monday, warning his staff: "We are in the midst of a phase of history in which nations will be redefined and their futures fundamentally altered."

News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch says that NATO is in a "crisis of confidence" because Western Europe is "losing its faith in the values and institutions that have kept us free."  He calls for a radical redefinition of the Alliance in order to save it, including extending membership to Australia, Japan, and Israel.

A panel of Iran experts addressed the "best-case scenario" for U.S.-Iran relations at the Atlantic Council.  Dr. Kenneth Katzman, a Middle East scholar at the Congressional Research Service, presented his Atlantic Council-commissioned Compendium of Policies, Laws and Regulations that govern U.S. relations with Iran, and the discussion followed.
