Ahmadinejad at 65th UNGA

No sooner did Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suggest from the rostrum of the U.N. General Assembly that most of the world believes the U.S. government was involved in a 9/11 conspiracy, than 32 nations followed the U.S. delegation as it walked out.

These were members of NATO, the European Union (21 countries are members of both), Australia, New Zealand and Costa Rica.

America’s usually sleepy summer has this year been riddled with debate over plans to build a mosque just two blocks from the site of New York’s World Trade Center—dubbed Ground-Zero—destroyed by terrorists on September 11, 2001.  US President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg are promoting the mosque, but a CNN poll reveals that 70% of Americans oppose it.

What an irony! Last week, the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan; Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year; and the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, attacks fell on consecutive days -- an extraordinary proximate coincidence given how far apart Islam and Judeo-Christianity remain whether over threats to burn Korans or in the Middle East and in Afghanistan in the battle to disrupt, defeat and destroy al-Qaida.

A southern U.S. preacher with a flock of 50 in Gainesville, Fla., decided to mark the ninth anniversary of 9/11 by lighting a fire that quickly circled the globe -- with a public burning of the Koran, much the way Hitler ordered public bonfires fueled with books written by Jews.
