Neil Richard Leslie | September 08, 2008

Russia has pledged to remove a key checkpoint from near the port of Poti within a week if Georgia promises not to use force against Abkhazia. The Kremlin's position on both breakaway regions remains unchanged. Mr Medvedev said Russia's move to recognise the independence of both Abkhazia and South Ossetia was "irrevocable."  A further round of international talks on the conflict have been scheduled for 15 October in Geneva.
