Ansari Africa Center

The Michael S. Ansari Africa Center was established in September 2009 with a mission to help transform U.S. and European policy approaches to Africa by emphasizing the building of strong geopolitical partnerships with African states and strengthening economic growth and prosperity on the continent. The Center seeks to engage and inform both policymakers and the general public of the strategic importance of Africa, both globally and for American and European interests in particular, through programs and publications as well as a robust media presence. Within the context of the Atlantic Council’s work to promote constructive U.S. leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the central role of the Atlantic community in meeting the international challenges, the Center will support and collaborate with the public and private sectors in forging practical solutions to challenges and opportunities in Africa.

Asia

The Atlantic Council's Program on Asia seeks to encourage U.S. leadership and engagement in the Asia-Pacific region to: promote prosperity, security and stability, enhance U.S. cooperation with Asian states on regional issues and global challenges and encourage European-American cooperation on Asian issues.

Energy and Environment

The Energy and Environment program explores the economic and political aspects of energy security and supply, as well as international environmental issues. It promotes open access and clean air and offers policy recommendations to meet developing countries’ needs through the increased flow of capital, technology and know-how in the energy and water supply sectors.

Global Business and Economics

The Global Business and Economics Program works to build upon and strengthen the already deep economic integration between Europe and the United States as well as promote Transatlantic leadership in the global economy. Bringing together top business leaders, government policy makers, and economic experts, the program explores transatlantic and global issues of importance to the U.S. and European business community. Our aim is to identify areas for cooperation as well as convergence in policy in an effort to promote an open and mutually beneficial environment for Transatlantic business and trade.

International Security

A rapidly evolving and uncertain world – in which new challenges and threats can develop either suddenly or over time – demands a reevaluation of traditional security relationships and strategies. The Council’s Program on International Security examines U.S. relationships with allies and adversaries in an effort to build consensus around policies that contribute to a more stable, secure and well-governed world.

Patriciu Eurasia Center

The Atlantic Council’s Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center fosters dialogue among regional leaders, as well with counterparts from key neighbors and global leaders. Combining in-depth understanding of Eurasia’s history with expertise on politics, economics and energy, the Center provides distinctive research and advice to governments and businesses worldwide. It seeks to promote an agenda of regional cooperation and integration based on shared values and common interest in a free, prosperous and peaceful future. The Center’s collaborative approach aims to catalyze local, regional and global strategies to address economic growth, deal more effectively with political issues, and bring about energy development and trade in ways that reinforce economic and political well-being.

Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East

The Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East seeks to produce original analysis of the forces transforming the region, as well as policy recommendations for the United States and Europe about how to promote closer and more productive relations with the region. The Hariri Center recognizes the substantial linkages between political and economic affairs, and will develop policy initiatives to promote successful democratic transitions and greater convergence among the Middle East, the United States, and Europe. The Center is dedicated to the memory of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and his efforts to rise above sectarianism and to promote innovative policies to support economic and political liberalization, sustainable conflict resolution, and greater regional and international integration.

South Asia Center

Under the leadership of Shuja Nawaz, the South Asia Center is the Atlantic Council’s focal point for work on Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan as well as on relations between these countries and China, Central Asia, Iran, the Arab world, Europe and the U.S. The Center seeks to foster partnerships with key institutions in the region to establish itself as a forum for dialogue between decision makers in South Asia, the U.S. and NATO. These deliberations cover internal and external security, governance, trade, economic development, education and other issues. Working within the region itself, rather than in Washington alone, creates greater local ownership of results.

Strategic Foresight Initiative

The Strategic Foresight Initiative seeks to enhance understanding of the potential impact and the policy implications of long-term global trends, disruptive change, and strategic shocks.  The Initiative provides a hub for an expanding international community of global trends experts that seeks to enhance public policy making in the United States and other key countries.  The Initiative convenes workshops that bring together policymakers, academic and think tank specialists, and business leaders to analyze long-term threats and challenges ranging from climate change, water and food shortages, to the impact of urbanization and new technologies – and how these trends interact with social, political, economic, and security factors, often to produce discontinuities that critically shape the global strategic environment affecting all nations.  The Strategic Foresight Initiative is particularly focused on forging collaboration among experts from the United States, Europe and other developed countries as well as from emerging powers such as China, India, and Brazil, and the next wave of emerging nations, from Indonesia and South Africa, to Egypt, Nigeria, and Turkey.

Transatlantic Relations 

The Program on Transatlantic Relations promotes dialogue on major issues affecting the transatlantic partnership and the ability of the United States and Europe to respond to global challenges, particularly as the European Union becomes an influential player on the global stage. The program develops recommendations for greater transatlantic cooperation in several areas.

Young Atlanticist

Launched at the at the 2008 NATO Summit in Bucharest, the Young Atlanticist Network brings together a community of emerging leaders who share a vision of closer Euro-Atlantic cooperation based on common values. Through online tools and regular events, the Young Atlanticist Network serves as a forum for open dialogue between young Atlanticists so they can exchange their views on a range of international issues. As a meeting place, the Network serves as a stage for global leaders to address the next generation and to share the perspective on current issues. Members of the Young Atlanticist Network enjoy opportunities to connect with other young professionals who share common professional interests.
