Transatlantic Relations

The Program on Transatlantic Relations promotes dialogue on major issues affecting the transatlantic partnership and the ability of the United States and Europe to respond to global challenges, particularly as the European Union becomes an influential player on the global stage. The program develops recommendations for greater transatlantic cooperation in the following areas:

Wroclaw Global Forum - Convened in one of Central Europe’s most dynamic (and beautiful) business and entrepreneurial hubs, the Wroclaw Global Forum brings together important decision-makers and business leaders to discuss Central Europe’s role as a critical partner in US efforts to strengthen ties across the Atlantic. The Wroclaw Global Forum is also the European home of the Atlantic Council’s Freedom Awards, which recognize extraordinary individuals and organizations that defend and advance the cause of freedom around the world.

Transatlantic Cooperation on Completing Europe– This program seeks to reinvigorate the policy debate in Washington and Europe about advancing Euro-Atlantic integration and democratic reforms in the Western Balkans and Europe’s East. The program sponsors roundtables on democracy issues in the region, provides expertise on a transatlantic task force on democracy assistance and organizes youth events during intergovernmental gatherings of the Community of Democracies.

Fostering a Strategic U.S.-EU Dialogue– Thisprogram, which involves cooperation with other U.S. and European think tanks, combines speaker series, workshops and meetings with U.S. and EU officials to strengthen U.S.-EU dialogue on strategic issues such as privacy, homeland security and trade policy.

Transatlantic Dialogues on International LawThe Transatlantic Dialogues on International Law identify measures the United States and Europe can take to strengthen cooperation on matters of international law, including international human rights, preventive detention and other issues.

The Future of Pivotal States– This program focuses on key states on Europe’s rim, especially Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, where political developments could have a significant impact on the transatlantic community.
