J. Peter Pham Discusses Morocco at Experts’ Roundtable on Capitol Hill
July 31, 2012J. Peter Pham, director of the Atlantic Council’s Michael S. Ansari Africa Center, was a featured speaker today on Capitol Hill at an experts’ roundtable for senior foreign policy and homeland security staffers to members of the House and Senate on “Finding a Way Forward: The US, Morocco, and a Changing North Africa.”
Other panelists at the event included Alexis Arieff, African affairs analyst with the Congressional Research Service, and Audra Grant, a political scientist at the RAND Corporation. The panel was moderated by Haim Malka, deputy director of and senior fellow in the Middle East Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Also speaking at the event was H.E. Rachad Bouhlal, ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United States.
The panelists discussed Morocco’s new constitution in the context of the so-called Arab Spring, the political and economic program of the country’s newly-elected government, its regionalization plan, security and terrorism threats in Morocco and throughout the region, as well as examined the relationship between the US and Morocco.
