Obama's Angels Cover Controversy
James Joyner | January 28, 2009
Both Spencer Ackerman and Matthew Yglesias, males both, are highly offended by the cover of the current The National Interest depicting the foreign policy triumvirate of Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, and Janet Napolitano as "Obama's Angels," claiming the implication that these accomplished women are somehow analogous to sexy female crimefighters is insulting to women. Ackerman pronounces TNI "once a Very Serious foreign-policy journal" and advises its editors to treat women with respect "if you want to be taken seriously."
Interestingly, TNI is edited by Justine Rosenthal, who is both decidedly female and taken quite seriously. For example, she garners A Sit-Down with Brent Scowcroft, chairman of the Atlantic Council's International Advisory Board, for the current issue.
Somehow, I'm guessing it's not TNI who's missing something here.
