Kai Eide Discusses Afghanistan

Kai Eide, the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, spoke at the Atlantic Council today about the country's fragile security situation.  In an off-the-record discussion, Eide stressed that the media's recent predictions of failure in Afghanistan threaten to ruin Western morale.  Continued doom-and-gloom headlines, Eide said, could turn into self-fulfilling prophecies in the near future.  NATO must not allow its commitment to rebuilding Afghanistan to be weakened by negative media reporting.
