Cross Strait Seminar March 2012

On March 20 the Atlantic Council held a panel discussion on the implications of recent and pending leadership transitions in Asia and their implications for US foreign and security policy and cross-strait relations.

Dr. Michael Green, senior adviser and Japan chair for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, previously served as special assistant to the president for national security affairs and senior director for Asian affairs at the National Security Council. Ambassador J. Stapleton Roy is the director of the Kissinger Institute of China and the United States at the Wilson Center. A career foreign service officer, Ambassador Roy has served many postings in East Asia, including ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1991 to 1995. Dr. Banning Garrett, director of the Strategic Foresight Initiative at the Atlantic Council, has more than thirty years' experience as a consultant to the Department of Defense and other US government agencies carrying on strategic dialogues with China.

The moderator for the series, Dr. Robert Sutter, currently serves as professor of practice of international affairs at The George Washington University. In his government career he has served as national intelligence officer for East Asia and the Pacific at the US government's National Intelligence Council, and China division director at the Department of State's Bureau of Intelligence and Research.

This event is part of the Asia Program’s Cross-Strait series, which examines strategic and current affairs surrounding cross-strait relations.
