Reforming Global Finance for the Economic Recovery
August 04, 2010The Atlantic Council hosted U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT)--Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and co-author of the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill--for a discussion on the state of financial reforms in the United States and around the world.
The recently signed Dodd-Frank bill presents of the most sweeping overhauls of the U.S. financial markets and institutions since the Great Depression. Financial regulatory reform has been at the heart of policymakers’ efforts to ensure a return to global growth over the past two years; this bill represents months of contentious debate, negotiation, and coordination with various stakeholders. The Atlantic Council is fortunate to host Senator Dodd at the moment the bill is being implemented, to hear his thoughts and analysis; including how this bill addresses the lessons learned from the financial crisis and how reform can be coordinated with our European and G20 partners.
Senator Chuck Hagel, Chairman of the Atlantic Council, provided an introduction to the event. Frederick Kempe, Atlantic Council President and CEO, moderated. This event is part of the Mapping the Economic and Financial Future Series, a lecture series featuring high-level business leaders and economic policymakers from the U.S. and Europe hosted by the Council’s Global Business and Economics Program.
