On October 14, the Atlantic Council hosted Ambassadors Abdulaziz Kamilov and Sodiq Safaev for a Eurasia Discussion Series event on Uzbekistan’s view and role on Afghanistan.

Abdulaziz Kamilov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan

Sodiq Safaev, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs

Located in the heart of Central Eurasia, Uzbekistan provides non-military transit routes for the NATO mission in Afghanistan that have important implications for regional security and cooperation. The discussion will consider Uzbekistan’s views with a particular focus on the social, economic and ethno-cultural aspects of Afghan reality, the challenges of achieving political stability, and Uzbekistan’s ideas about how to support Afghanistan’s political and economic recovery and relations with Central Asia.
