Pakistan's Political System: Building Consensus

More on Syed Fakhar Imam:
Fakhar Imam was the speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan from 1985 to 1986. As speaker, he was second in the line of succession to the President and occupied the fourth position in the Warrant of Precedence, after the President, the Prime Minister and the Chairman of Senate.
He also served as Federal Minister in two cabinets. Fakhar Imam was in charge of rural development and local governance from 1981 to 1983, was Federal Minister for Education from 1990 to 1993 and was Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Law from 1990 to 1991. During his time in office, he chaired four commissions: the Literacy Commission, the Education Commission, the Commission on Restructuring the Governmental Framework and the Local Government Commission. He also chaired the District of Multan from 1980 to 1983 and served as Member of Parliament from 1997 to 1999.
At present, Fakhar Imam is the convener of the Planning Commission in Islamabad for enhancing and promoting agricultural production. He is a member of the Board of Governors at the National College of Management, Lahore, and currently serves as a member of the Central Executive Committee for the Pakistan’s People Party (PPP).
