Ambassador John Bass at ACUS

On February 8, 2011, the Atlantic Council hosted an off-the-record breakfast roundtable to discuss recent developments in Georgia with United States Ambassador to Georgia John Bass. Damon Wilson, Executive Vice President at the Atlantic Council, moderated the discussion.

Ambassador Bass was joined by members of the Georgia Task Force and other analysts and opinion leaders on the region. In his discussion, the ambassador highlighted U.S. government efforts to bolster the political process in advance of elections in 2012 and 2013, by strengthening capacity-building in Georgian civil society, supporting electoral reform efforts and fostering the growth of independent media. He also discussed efforts to improve the investment climate in Georgia in order to generate greater foreign direct investment. The discussion also touched upon efforts to revive negotiations on Georgia’s territorial conflicts.

The Atlantic Council's Georgia Task Force:

The Atlantic Council’s high-level, bipartisan task force, co-chaired by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), brings together top experts on a wide range of issues related to Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration. The task force is part of the Atlantic Council’s Project on Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic Integration. Through a speaker series, periodic analysis and collaboration with Georgian civil society partners, the project seeks to promote policy debate on Georgia and to support the strengthening of Georgia’s democracy, free markets, and civil society.
