Relations between the US and Egypt have taken a downturn since Egyptian authorities raided the offices of seventeen nongovernmental organizations in December - three of them US-funded. Gary Gensler: Financial Reforms and the Global Economic Recovery
January 12, 2010Gary Gensler, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, discussed reforms to over-the-counter derivatives as well as other financial markets with the Atlantic Council. In light of the emerging global economic recovery, Gensler also addressed the issue of transatlantic cooperation on new regulation to ensure the future health of financial markets and to protect the broader economy and the public.

David Wessel, Economics Editor of the Wall Street Journal, moderated the event, and Atlantic Council Board member John D. Macomber, principal of JDM Investment Group, introduced Gensler. The conversation was part of the Mapping the Economic and Financial Future Series, a lecture series featuring high-level business leaders and economic policymakers from the U.S. and Europe hosted by the Council’s Global Business and Economics Program.
