Nawaz Offers Views on Changing Pakistani Perceptions of U.S.
Shuja Nawaz, Director of the Atlantic Council's South Asia Center, was interviewed on The Takeaway morning radio news program on the Pakistan flood situation. The discussion focused on the U.S. being the single largest donor of aid, and the potential for Pakistanis to shift their perceptions of America. Nawaz insists that the U.S. should stay the course with aid to Pakistan, but warns of the long-term effects of America's goodwill, stating that "changing image takes a long time."

Freedom's Challenge Awards
November 08, 2009On November 8, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Atlantic Council hosted the Freedom’s Challenge dinner and awards ceremony. Held at Berlin's Hotel Adlon, the event was attended by government, military, business and cultural leaders from across the Atlantic Alliance.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivered the evening's keynote address. In recognition of their fights for democracy and liberty, the Atlantic Council presented Freedom Awards to:
- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, on behalf of the American people
- President Lech Walesa, on behalf of the Polish people
- President Vaclav Havel, on behalf of the Czech and Slovak peoples (in absentia)
- Admiral James Stavridis, on behalf of NATO troops
- Vice Chancellor Guido Westerwelle, on behalf of the German people
- Mayor Klaus Wowereit, on behalf of the people of Berlin

A commemorative publication to mark the occasion, Freedom’s Challenge, was launched at the dinner.
