Stig Jarle Hansen at the Atlantic Council

The Michael S. Ansari Africa Center hosted a breakfast briefing and discussion today on Somali piracy and militancy with noted expert Stig Jarle Hansen, Head of the International Relations Program at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) in Ås. Hansen, who has written a number of influential studies detailing the pirate, militant, government, and business networks of Somalia, is one of the few scholars who regularly conducts such research on the ground in the war-ravaged country.

Participating in the event, moderated by Ansari Center director J. Peter Pham, were Washington-based experts on the Horn of Africa from government, universities, and think tanks.
