U.S. Soldiers Said to Have Been Intended Targets of Pakistan Hotel Bomb

Peter Cassata | September 22, 2008

Sources have suggested that 30 U.S. Marines staying in the Marriott in Islamabad were the intended targets of Saturday's bombing, which already has a confirmed death toll of 53.  According to Deutsche-Welle, the Marines were supposedly part of the security staff surrounding Admiral Mike Mullen's visit to Pakistan.

Additionally, the Washington Post said the Pentagon has confirmed that the two Americans killed in the explosion were part of the defense forces stationed at the U.S. Embassy.
