Description:

The Office of Development and External Relations of the Atlantic Council is currently seeking qualified candidates for internships. The Atlantic Council is the leading international policy think tank focusing on the transatlantic alliance and its role in the broader world. With programs focusing on South Asia, Africa, Asia, and Eurasia, as well as on International Security, Transatlantic Relations and Energy, the Atlantic Council touches on most areas of foreign policy.

The Office of Development and External Relations serves a primary role in the areas of outreach, membership, development, event planning, and media and public relations. The Office maintains daily communication with the Board of Directors, corporate and individual sponsors and the media. The Office also plays the lead role in the organization of all major public events and conferences at the Council, featuring key policy makers and global leaders, including current and former heads of state and government. Interns in our office will also help in researching, planning and executing large-scale annual events including our annual awards dinner, annual members conference, annual Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum, and other events and conferences.

Candidates should be interested in gaining practical experience in the fields of international affairs, public policy, international business and/or communications. Interns are an integral part of the Development and External Relations team and participate in a variety of activities that support the Office, as well as the Council as a whole, including writing, event management, board and member relations and project development. There is also an opportunity for increased responsibility for those who demonstrate excellence throughout the semester.

Please note: This is a hands-on position, not research based. All internships with the Office of Development and External Relations (OER) are full-time (32-40 hours/week), are based on the typical university semester system (mid-January through mid-May; mid-May through mid-August; and mid-August through mid-December) and are unpaid.

Candidates for this position should:

• Be an independent, self-starter who also works well in a team environment.
• Be able to combine quick work with extensive attention to detail.
• Have excellent writing skills, demonstrated by a writing sample.
• Have excellent English-language communication skills, both written and oral.
• Be interested in hands-on work in planning events and working with Council supporters. (Experience in these or related areas is also beneficial.)
• Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Adobe InDesign experience is beneficial.

Typical tasks of an OER intern include (but are not limited to):

•    Administrative work including copying, mailing, maintaining contact lists
•    Conduct research to support the activities of the department.
•    Manage program contacts and knowledge.
•    Write and send a weekly note Atlantic Council 
•    Help with logistical issues for Council events and activities including gala dinners and large overseas conferences.
