Internship Opportunities: New Atlanticist

Description:
The Atlantic Council is seeking a candidate with a passion for international relations and excellent analytic writing skills for its New Atlanticist Internship during the Fall 2010 semester.
The intern will provide support to the Managing Editor in running the Council’s website and its international affairs blogs, the New Atlanticist and NATOSource. The intern is expected to regularly contribute pieces to the blog, edit blog submissions, generate summaries of Atlantic Council events, and assist in adding various other content to the website.
The internship requires demonstrated writing skills and/or editorial experience. Graduate students or recent master’s degree recipients will be strongly favored. Published material in print or on the web is an advantage. The ideal candidate will have a background in some combination of the following: international security; European and transatlantic relations; comparative politics; and global business and economics. Experience with HTML and photo editing is also desirable.
The internship begins in September and is unpaid. Interns are expected to commit between 20 and 35 hours per week of their time for at least three months.
Duties are not limited to, but will include:
- Support the activities of the Managing Editor and his staff.
- Upload, format, and maintain Council submissions to its web site and international affairs blogs, New Atlanticist and NATOSource.
- Write analytical pieces for publication on the New Atlanticist blog.
- Maintain and update information on Council staff and their credentials.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least a college junior in good standing. Graduate students and recent master’s graduates strongly favored.
- Demonstrated interest in international affairs and/or transatlantic relations.
- Demonstrated writing skills and/or editorial experience.
- Some experience with HTML highly preferred. Experience with Drupal, WordPress, or other web content management systems desirable.
- Must work well with others and interact professionally with senior figures.
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
