The Atlantic Council seeks interns for its Global Business and Economics program.   The Program works to build and strengthen the economic integration between Europe and the United States, and to promote transatlantic leadership in issues that are essential to global economic prosperity. Our aim is to influence policy makers to promote an open and mutually beneficial environment for transatlantic business, trade, and investment.   Interns play a vital role in the program’s work on all fronts.

Program Highlights:

Recently, the Global Business and Economics program has hosted events with such diverse and influential policymakers as: U.S. Senator Chris Dodd; World Bank President Bob Zoellick; French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde; and Deutsche Bank President Dr. Josef Ackermann.  The program recently launched a major report on the need to converge American and European responses to the financial crisis with U.S. Senator Mark Warner, MEP Sharon Bowles, and Atlantic Council Chairman Senator Chuck Hagel.

Interns for the program on Global Business and Economics at the Atlantic Council are essential contributors to the program’s fast-paced and diverse array of activities.  They provide important research and logistical support to the program Director and his deputy.  Interns are also encouraged to pursue their own research projects and to write and publish their own blog posts on the Council’s New Atlanticist website.

The program seeks well-organized, highly reliable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate initiative.  Successful candidates will also have excellent writing and analytical skills.  The position is non-paid, but interns gain valuable skills, experience, knowledge, and contacts in the Washington policy community.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Conduct research to support the activities and projects of the Director and his deputy.
• Produce a weekly global business and economics news brief, highlighting the key events of the week.
• Manage program contacts and knowledge.
• Draft correspondence and manage logistics for program events and activities.
• Take notes and write briefings on events/hearings attended.
• Write analytical pieces for publication on the New Atlanticist blog.
• Help draft policy briefs and reports.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student or a recent graduate.
• Must demonstrate proven interest in international affairs and international economics, trade, or business.
• Must work well with others and interact professionally with senior figures.
• Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (out of 4.0) scale, or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
• Able to work full-time (40 hrs/week).
