Interns for the Atlantic Council History Project will work closely with a senior fellow of the Atlantic Council, on a research project about the Council, in anticipation of its fiftieth anniversary in 2011. 

The project requires the intern/research assistant to conduct research at various archives in the Washington D.C. area. The work will be largely independent; daily and weekly meetings and check-ins will provide constructive guidance and feedback.

The project requires well-organized, highly reliable, motivated candidates who demonstrate initiative and a desire to conduct advanced research. While this position is non-paid, the intern/research assistant will gain valuable skills, experience, and knowledge of the public policy landscape.

Duties are not limited to, but will include:

  • Conducting research on the Atlantic Council’s history at various archives
  • Locating, analyzing, and submitting materials
  • Facilitating interviews conducted for the Atlantic Council’s oral history
  • Attending meetings at governmental and non-governmental agencies
  • Attending Atlantic Council staff meetings

The intern/research assistant is responsible for completing all tasks stated above as well as additional tasks as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least a college sophomore in good standing. Students with archival experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work at least 25 hours a week, with a majority of that time occurring during the regular operating hours of the Library of Congress archives (Mondays to Saturdays)
  • Must have a strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • Must have at least a 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.
