NATO in Afghanistan:
A Regional Commander’s View
The Atlantic Council hosted a
live video conference broadcast from NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied
Powers Europe with recently returned Dutch regional ISAF commanders. They
provided a frank and candid assessment of the current security and reconstruction
situation in Afghanistan and provided an update on the progress of the PRTs
to extend security and stability beyond Kabul. Further details will follow

the Council’s Office of Education sponsored “Beyond Politics – Prospects and
Problems with International Peacekeeping Operations” to provide an on-the-ground
picture of the state of international peacekeeping operations and to foster
broad discussion on how US interests are advanced by participating in
international peacekeeping operations. This event was part of
UN Week and
The People Speak 2006. Similar
events will be held across the Euro-Atlantic Area through the
Youth Atlantic Treaty Association
Network.

More than 170 students from sixteen U.S. and Canadian schools simulated the
workings of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) at the annual
National Model NATO. Sponsored by Howard and Kent State Universities, the
simulation celebrated its 21st year with one of the most successful
