The China Korea Forum
Changing Calculus: Evolving Chinese-Korean Political and Military Relations
Thursday, February 14, 2008, 2:00-3:30pm
The February 14th China-Korea Forum, entitled Changing Calculus: Evolving Chinese-Korean Political and Military Relations, was the sixth in a series of events co-sponsored by the Atlantic Council of the United States and the Korea Economic Institute (KEI). The session focused on the changing dynamics in China's political and military relations with the two Koreas and how those dynamics are related to North and South Korea's bilateral relations. Panelists, who each made presentations during the seminar, included Alexandre Mansourov, a Member of the National Committee for North Korea, Michael McDevitt, Vice President & Director of the Center for Naval Analysis Corporation, and Derek Mitchell, Director & Senior Fellow for Asia at Center for Strategic and International Studies' International Security Program. Jack Pritchard, President of KEI, then made comments on the presentations and moderated a question and answer session. Most of the questions dealt with the implications of the changing political dynamics between China and North and South Korea for U.S. regional interests and negotiating position in the Six-Party process aimed at denuclearizing North Korea.
