Job Description and Requirements
The Atlantic Council of the United States seeks a talented, entrepreneurial
thinker and manager to develop its business and economic-oriented projects.
A major task will be to launch a new study group of business and economic
policy experts that will provide cutting edge analysis of transatlantic
economic and business developments.
The successful candidate will have a central role in developing new business
and economic policy projects ranging from monitoring and analyzing news
events of importance to a transatlantic business audience to launching a
business leaders’ speaker series. Issues to be covered will include
transatlantic trade and investment, regulatory policy, financial markets and
services, competition policy, privacy, intellectual property rights, and
other concerns of interest to the business and economic policy communities.
The successful candidate for this position will have excellent managerial
and communication skills, a record of initiative and accomplishment, and a
proven aptitude for business and regulatory issues. She/he should think
creatively about how to strengthen outreach to the corporate and policy
communities.
The director for Business and Economics will report to the director of the
Transatlantic Relations program and will have the following
responsibilities:

Primary staff support for a high-level transatlantic advisory group: serve as primary liaison with members; identify relevant issues; develop follow-on activities; and organize program for annual meeting.

Coverage of business and economic issues and related outreach: exercise substantive oversight of website and other products; write short articles/op-eds/policy statements; and develop outreach to other business groups, the policy community, and the public.

Program development and fundraising: conceptualize and develop new programs that reflect concerns of the transatlantic business and economic policy community; identify and approach potential funders; develop high-impact dissemination strategies for products; manage relations with funders and other partners.

General management: oversight of events, budget, general administration of program.
Qualifications for the position:

MBA or a Master’s degree in a relevant field, with 5-6 years work experience preferred

Extensive experience in program management, preferably in a non-profit or association environment

Superior writing/communication skills; willingness to experiment in outreach methods

Demonstrated track-record in fundraising, including from corporate donors

Experience in the business community; awareness of business priorities

Superb people skills; must be able to work well with both interns and senior officials

Serious expertise and interest in transatlantic business and economics

Office of External Relations Intern
Starting Immediately: Board and Corporate Relations internship in the Office of Development and External Relations of the Atlantic Council of the United States. The Council is offering an unpaid internship to a student or young professional who wishes to assist in the administration of the Office of External Relations in premiere Washington D.C. think tank. This position offers a challenging yet highly rewarding experience to a young individual interested in gaining valuable planning skills in corporate relations as well as event management. The intern will work closely with assistant director of Board and Corporate Relations and the Council's vice president for development and external relations to organize the Atlantic Council's annual Board Meeting and Dinner as well as assist in organizing the Atlantic Council’s annual Awards Dinner honoring top policy makers and businessmen. (Last year’s recipients were Stephen Schwartzman, CEO and Co-founder of Blackstone, General James L. Jones, USMC (Ret.), former Supreme Allied Commander Europe, and Alan Greenspan.) The intern will have the opportunity to be part of the team managing board and corporate relations as well as organizing large high-level events in Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities include:

Secretarial/clerical assistance/duties.

General office support.

Maintaining and updating board and corporate files.

Assistance at Council events (registration, etc.) and Board of Directors meetings.

Drafting, mailing and faxing communications/correspondence from the Office of External Relations and follow- up calls.

Research and preparation of materials for meetings of the Board of Directors.

Administrative support for the Office of Development and External Relations.
Qualifications for the position:

Obtained / studying towards BA or MA in communications, business, hospitality management, international relations, or related fields.

Professional demeanor.
-
Highly organized with competency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Proven research and writing skills.
-
Performance under pressure and ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.

Strong knowledge of Washington foreign policy leaders, a plus.
